Job Responsibilities

As Deputy Vice-Chancellor, you will be a central part of the university's management and work closely with the Vice-Chancellor to develop and strengthen the operations. You have overall responsibility for strategic issues and lead work within one or more prioritized areas. Together with the Vice-Chancellor and management, you drive strategic initiatives that create value for students, employees, and partners. As Deputy Vice-Chancellor, you will have the opportunity to lead in an organization characterized by short decision-making paths, close collaboration between academies and management, with a strong culture of inclusion, respect, and creativity. The university offers an environment that promotes collaboration and innovation, where ideas and engagement are given space to grow.

The role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor includes, among other things:

  • Representing the Vice-Chancellor as needed and acting as deputy in the Vice-Chancellor's absence.
  • Leading and participating in various councils, committees, and steering groups within the university.
  • Representing the university in national and international networks, collaborations, and meetings.
  • Contributing to strengthening the university's profile and relationships with industry, the public sector, and other universities.
  • Participating in the overall strategic management of the university.
  • Ensuring that the operations develop in line with national requirements and internal goals.
  • Initiating and driving development projects within education, research, collaboration, and sustainable development.
  • Working on the renewal of the educational offerings, pedagogical development, and research-supporting structures.

Qualifications

Formal Qualifications

As Deputy Vice-Chancellor, you must meet the eligibility requirements for employment according to the Higher Education Act, Chapters 2 and 4, and have:

  • A doctoral degree (meeting the eligibility requirements for employment as a professor or lecturer) in a subject relevant to Högskolan i Gävle.
  • Good and documented experience of successful leadership within academia.
  • Good scientific and pedagogical skills and be well anchored in the scientific community.
  • Experience of collaboration with the surrounding community.
  • Excellent language skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

Meritorious for the Role

  • Docent or professorial competence.
  • Experience of personnel responsibility.
  • Experience of high-level leadership within academia.

Personal Qualities

We are looking for someone with good communication and collaboration skills, who through their leadership can create engagement, contribute to a good working environment, and develop good relationships both internally and externally.

You have a well-developed ability to collaborate with the surrounding community and drive work forward by being development-oriented, action-oriented, structured, and goal-oriented.

You also have the ability to work with change management and successfully conduct and/or lead operations within education and research.

Conditions

The assignment covers 100% over a three-year period with the possibility of extending the assignment for an additional two three-year periods. The assignment will be combined with a permanent position as a teacher at Högskolan i Gävle.
